Dear Honest Men and Bonnie Lassies,
Earthday.org informed that today is World Bee Day!
I doubt there are many that aren’t big lovers of honey and plants, and bees are the super-duper eco-beings (not quite sure that is a thing, but I am rolling with it) that may be deserving of hefty gratitude for magic making in these domains. They do hunners [Scots: hundreds / a lot a lot / a tremendous amount] for our environment and have a language and culture like no other. Mon the bees!* 💪
Earthday.org have some articles on the bee’s peril, their importance and how to support their well being, and if you are interested, here are 10 facts about bees (from the WWF) - wonderful beings bzz-bzzn’ aboot!
On a different note, (but one that will bring us back to bees,) after meeting a great friend and telling of my first experience of a wild mushroom foraging season last year, he informed that he has bought into an eco-village in New Zealand and imparted some wisdom relating to mushroom cultivating techniques. This inspired my wife and I to drill holes into a tree we felled and insert shiitake mushroom spores to grow our own cultures. ☝️ Amateur mycologists.
Subsequently, we came across a renowned mycologist named Paul Stamets in a fascinating documentary called Fantastic Fungi (trailer on YouTube - it is available in full on Netflix) and I would almost say that this is a must watch. His TedTalk (YouTube) is also intriguing and we were drawn to his appearance on the Joe Rogan podcast (YouTube) because we saw a clip where, after talking of the dangers of portobello mushrooms, he keeps well shtum implying severe consequences if he elucidates more on the industry - wild 🍄 In the podcast he also has a short spiel about not calling mushrooms “shrooms” (they command or are deserving of more respect 😊), the criticality of bees for our environment and agriculture and some amazing observations about some bee-mushroom interactions (among many other things). Mon the bees (and the (mu)shrooms🍄)! 🐝
Here is a list of some documentaries on bees (from beekeeping101.com) if one has the inclination.
For a number of selfish reasons, I put some parameters into ChatGPT and massaged a few stanza’s out in the honour of bees and World Bee Day. The outcome was named Buzzing Bee Wisdom, but I think I will rename it to something far more refined and sophisticated…
Mon the Bees! 💪*
Through fields they grace, wings take flight,
Guardians of pollination, in radiant light.
Their dance reveals pollen's sweet spots,
Golden nectar, for pure honey pots.
Bear witness to their sacred art,
For bees and bears, honey's impart.
Their song and dance, primal, magical,
Nature's symphony, harmony radical.
Without their buzz, a world forlorn,
Flowers fade, fruits left unborn.
"Mon the bees!" environmentalists cry,
With freedom and truth, let spirits fly.
In a world diverse, cultures entwined,
Acceptance in harmony, let unity find.
As time hums with secrets, bees bestow,
Wisdom's dance, eternal stories glow.
In harmony with bees, let us aspire,
To nurture Earth, let actions transpire.
Amidst life's chaos, realise glee,
Bzzz bzzz whispers, "just bee."
Have a brilliantly buzzin’ 🐝 weekend!
Love
*P.S. In reference to the post title and poem, one may imagine environmentalists taking actions analogous to the awesome hippy-dafty in this wee Chewin’ the Fat sketch (YouTube), and giving it a big “Mon the bees!” 💪 FYI and in relation to this, the ChatGPT prompt was as follows: “Please incorporate "Mon the bees", which means beautiful hippy environmentalists are in full support of actions to allow bees to thrive on our planet.”
P.P.S. I searched for an epic bee buzzing EDM tune to accompany this post and came across the Transformers Bumblebee 2018 Movie Tribute (YouTube) Video. Despite shortcomings in Transformer story lines, I like the Transformer concept(, dare I say branding (as I do not know enough about who has the rights etc. and their values)), cinematography and plan on checking out the movie at some point as Bumblebee is a legendary character 🦾🐝
