Dear Honest Men and Bonnie Lassies,
In this weeks VL Mini-series Episode 07 (<12m), COVID-19 is explored. The topic is quite intense, so, eh, I took the liberty of giving a couple of tunes1 some welly (in an attempt) to lighten things up.
I hope the YouTube censors allow and that you enjoy!
Here are a few sources if one wants to take a deeper dive.2
FYI, I had to cut the following from this weeks mini-episode because it digressed too much and neglects some important specificity:
As a quick important side note, good nurses and care home workers, and teachers too for that matter, remuneration should be seriously revised to the high-heavens. The economics on this is a different matter, but they can be made to work if there is group agency and maybe we will revisit this topic in the future.
One of VL’s core values is acceptance. I listened to a lovely podcast by Tara Brach this week in which she said,
The Buddha said that the great suffering we experience is not realising the truth of who we are - our true nature…
I am excited to explore this in the finale of the mini-series. Time permitting, I plan to complete it this month.
There are a few small mindful practices in the Tara Brach podcast (that you can obviously skip if you like) and some touching anecdotes throughout. At the end, she reads the following poem by Diane Ackerman,
In the name of the daybreak
and the eyelids of morning
and the wayfaring moon
and the night when it departs,
I swear I will not dishonor
my soul with hatred,
but offer myself humbly
as a guardian of nature,
as a healer of misery,
as a messenger of wonder,
as an architect of peace.
In the name of the sun and its mirrors
and the crowning seasons
of the firefly and the apple,
I will honor all life
—wherever and in whatever form
it may dwell—on Earth my home,
and in the mansions of the stars.
The full poem can be found here.
Namaste (which Tara said means “I see the sacred in you”) 🌳🙏,
Big hugs and much love,
Ross
